Royal Borough of Greenwich Conference: Finding Humanity After Hate - exploring restorative responses to serious violence

The Royal Borough of Greenwich RA conference 2020 will explore the use of restorative practices in developing a sense of shared humanity after traumatic incidents for individuals and societies. With contributions from academics, individuals with lived experience and practitioners from the field, this one day event will enable participants to reflect on how restorative narratives can be transformative in even the most challenging situations.

The conference will include presentations and workshop sessions, giving participants the space to reflect on their practice and develop new skills.

The programme includes:

  • Key note - Dr Gerard Drennan, Head of Psychology at SLAM: Restorative Practice applications in mental health settings - the pathway to recovery and restitution
  • Key note - Vince Mercer, RP Lead at the Aim Project:  Restorative Practice & Sexually Harmful Behaviour (SHB) - the benefits and challenges
  • Workshop sessions give participants new ideas to implement in practice. Topics include ‘an exploration of restorative practice in SHB’ (using interfamilial cases) or ‘ Kintsugi (golden repair) Course: exploring creative programmes to put the pieces back together again’
  • Presentation to students who have attained the Royal Borough of Greenwich Level 5 Certificate in Restorative Practice and achieved accredited practitioner status.

This event is relevant for restorative practitioners from education, criminal justice, children’s and adult social care,  prison and community safety teams. We encourage individuals who are trained restorative practitioners to attend, as well as those who are interested in finding out more about how the approach can be used.
